Electronics International has redefined what an engine analyzer should be with the full color, glass-paneled, completely customizable MVP-50P. The MVP-50 allows pilots to accurately monitor dozens of engine and system parameters, program redline limits, setup custom inputs, create interactive checklists, store general flight information, build flight plans, record and review pertinent data from every flight, and so much more. The MVP has been designed with the same thoughtful engineering that goes into every EI product.

The Main Screen

At the top of the MVP-50P’s main screen is the Manifold Pressure and RPM gauges. From left to right, they are aligned with the aircraft’s throttle and prop controls. These gauges provide both analog and digital displays. The digital display provides accuracy and allows the pilot to detect small trends. The analog display provides field-of-vision, allowing the pilot to determine a function’s position in its operating range.

Along the right side of the Main Screen are six analog/digital gauges, followed by three Digital-only gauges. These gauges display Fuel Flow, Fuel Pressure, Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature, Volts and Amps. Optional gauges are Fuel Level, Vacuum, TIT, Hydraulic Pressure, G-Meter, Carbon Monoxide, Cabin Pressure and Altitude, Airspeed and a number of other gauges and annunciators.

In the left lower portion of the Main Screen is the most sophisticated EGT/CHT engine analyzer on the planet. The bars in blue show the EGTs and the bars in green show the CHTs. The pilot-programmable maximum and minimum ranges for both EGTs and CHTs are displayed and can be set to match any engine’s operation. You can learn more about the Bar Graph in the section at the bottom of this page.

The blue section between the instrument groups provides 8 support functions. This section can be configured to display Horsepower, OAT, Up Timer, Down Timer, Local Time, Zulu Time, and a number of other gauges and annunciators.

One of the most valuable features of the MVP-50P is its ability to alert the pilot the moment an engine or aircraft system function reaches a caution or warning area of operation. The color of the digital display represents the area of operation. If all the engine and aircraft parameters are operating within acceptable ranges, all the digits in the digital displays will be shown in green. If a function drops into a warning or caution operating range, the digital display will be shown in red or yellow, as appropriate. In addition, the digits will blink and an external caution or warning light will also blink. Some MVP systems can be equipped with a voice warning system.

The MVP-50P was designed to reduce the need to constantly scan and interpret engine instruments. The moment a problem occurs the pilot is notified. This allows the pilot to deal with a problem long before engine damage occurs, giving the pilot options he otherwise may not have.

Bar Graph

The MVP-50P comes standard with a state-of-the-art, full-color bar graph which assists with ROP/LOP leaning. Additionally, the bar graph has both “normalized” and digital readout screens. No other bar graph in the industry comes close to providing the number of options the MVP-50P offers.

  • ROP Mode: The Rich-of-Peak mode on the MVP-50P informs the pilot when the first cylinder peaks, as well as how many degrees below peak the engine is operating.
  • LOP Mode: For Lean-of-Peak Operations, the MVP-50P informs the pilot as each cylinder peaks, at what temp each peaks, and how far from peak each is. For quick reference, every cylinder’s peak information is constantly displayed and “tattletale bars” are shown above each cylinder, indicating where each cylinder peaked the last time the engine was leaned.
  • Normalized Mode: The Bar Graph can easily be “Normalized,” creating a baseline from which to monitor in- flight engine temperature changes. When Normalized, all of the bars start off at the same height. If any cylinder’s column is not the same height as the others, than that cylinder’s Exhaust Gas Temperature has changed in relation to the other cylinders. These changes can be critical indicators to problems occurring within your engine.
  • Peak Markers: While other monitors don’t maintain your engine’s leaning history, The MVP-50P’s Bar Graph keeps track of exactly where the cylinders peaked during each leaning process. When leaning, the MVP-50P displays a peak marker indicating where each cylinder peaked during the last leaning process, providing visual assistance to pilots.

Other Screens

In addition to the “Main Screen”, the MVP-50P offers a “System Screen”, “Fuel Management Screen”, “General Info Screen” and a multitude of additional screens. These additional screens give the MVP-50P flexibility not found in other engine instruments. Simply push the “SCRN” or “Screen” button found on the front of the display to cycle between the MVP-50P’s multiple different screens. At any time you can push the “Exit” button to quickly return to the main screen. Any time the main screen is not being displayed you will have annunciators at the right hand side of the screen to warn you if a primary function goes into caution or warning.

  • Programmable over-temp limits provide pilots with immediate alerts whenever critical function parameters are exceeded during flight.
  • Onboard data-recording gives pilots the capability to review entire flight histories for any flight.
  • A complete bar graph gives critical engine information during flight, including leaning assistance, temperature differentials, audible and visual limit alerts.
  • The System Screen is dedicated to aircraft systems, including flaps, trim and rudder, as well as whatever other functions you want to view.
  • Customizable checklists visually inform you which steps have and have not been completed in each checklist.
  • General Information Screens and Flight Plan Screens can be customized to store critical flight information, allowing you to create a "virtual cockpit," free of the pieces of paper pilots regularly have to juggle to stay on top of in-flight operations.
