PlaneSync Connected Aircraft Management
Orders Expected To Being Shipping Later This Month
Garmin is pleased to announce the availability of PlaneSync ConnectedAircraft Management. PlaneSync can automatically update avionics databases, log flight/engine data and allows for aircraft owners and operators to remotely check fuel and systems status via the Garmin Pilot™ app . Enabled by the new GDL 60 datalink, PlaneSync technology is designed to bring new levels of connectivity and convenience to aircraft owners and operators alike. Orders for the GDL 60 datalink are expectedto begin shipping later this month.
Connected Aircraft Management
Using a 4G LTE cellular or Wi-Fi ® connection provided by the GDL 60datalink, PlaneSync technology enables impressive avionics connectivity capabilities to streamline an aircraft owner’s pre-flight and post-flight activities. LTE connectivity is utilized to remotely check the aircraft’s fueland systems status, while LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity can be used to download database updates and upload logged flight engine data. Requiring a GTN Xi and compatible with popular Garmin avionics such as TXi flight displays and GI 275 flight instruments, along with select integrated flight decks, PlaneSync technology is available for a wide array of Garmin-equipped general and business aviation aircraft.
Automatic Database Updates
Eliminating the time-consuming process of updating databases via PC and data card, PlaneSync technology automatically downloads databases to the aircraft via Wi-Fi or LTE. Downloads can occur while the aircraft is powered off and the owner is away from the aircraft. Essential databases are automatically synchronized acrosscompatible avionics once the aircraft is powered up. This removes the need for pilots to plan around databases cycleupdates, or manually update the databases using data cards.
Engine and Flight Data Logging
Added capability coming in early 2024, PlaneSync will automatically transmit engine and flight log data to secure cloud storage after landing. Owners can view this data on devices running the Garmin Pilot app or on flyGarmin.com and have the ability to download the log files for maintenance team viewing. The data log can include GPS position and speed, and attitude information as well as engine data when appropriately equipped.
Remote Aircraft Status
PlaneSync will allow aircraft owners to check the status of their aircraft and its systems remotely using theGarmin Pilot app or their D2 Mach 1 smartwatch. When appropriately equipped, remote aircraft status features allow the pilot to check the GPS location, fuel quantities, database status, Hobbs, tachometer and flight times, battery voltage, OAT, and oil temperature of the aircraft. Convenient for flying clubs or multiple-owner aircraft, service subscribers can assign access for other users to view aircraft status.
Mobile Device Connectivity
The GDL 60 datalink offers Garmin Connext device connectivity, allowing pilots to connect their compatible app andinterface them to the avionics to transfer flight plans and stream weather, traffic, attitude information and other data. This can replace the need for a Flight Stream 510. The GDL 60 can also act as an interface to a GSR 56 satellitetransceiver, allowing pilots to utilize in-flight text messaging or initiate voice calls 6 via the Garmin Pilot app to stayconnected virtually anywhere. The LTE and Wi-Fi enabled features such as automatic database updates, remote aircraft status and flight enginelog uploading require a service plan from Garmin. Multiple service plans are available to provide cost-effectivechoices depending on the connectivity capabilities desired. Service plan details can be found at Garmin.com
The GDL 60 datalink is expected to begin shipping later this month. Updated software for GTN Xi (v20.31),TXi (v3.51) and GI 275 (v3.01) are required for GDL 60compatibility and are expected to be available inAugust. GDL 60 is included on the GTN Xi Part 23AML STC and requires a GTN Xi navigator for retrofit installations.
