Garmin Introduces GCO 14 Carbon Monoxide Detector
Garmin is pleased to announce the GCO™ 14 carbon monoxide (CO) detector, a remote-mount sensor that can integrate with select Garmin avionics to monitor CO levels and alert aircraft occupants of potentially harmful CO levels. The GCO 14 adds a new layer of situational awareness in the cockpit and provides peace of mind to pilots and their passengers, knowing the invisible threat of CO is being monitored.
The GCO 14 seamlessly integrates CO level monitoring and alerting into GTN™ Xi navigators, GI 275 flight instruments1 and TXi™ flight displays. Pilots can view the current CO level via a dedicated page or user data fields. In the event where potentially harmful CO levels are detected, the GCO 14 can provide both aural and visual alerts. Visual alerts flash a "CO Level" or "CO" message on the display and an aural alert, "Carbon Monoxide", can also be triggered when the avionics are connected to an audio panel2. To supplement preset alert thresholds, custom advisories can activate a CO message at pilot-selectable limits.
The small, lightweight GCO 14 module fits easily behind the aircraft’s panel. The standard kit includes a pre-made 7” cable to connect to avionics, and the unit can be easily secured to the wiring harness with zip ties or hard mounted directly to LRU connectors. GCO 14 meets FAA TSO-C48A for use in certified aircraft and has a sensor life up to 10 years. When needed, GCO 14 can be easily disconnected and replaced via a 4-pin connector.
The GCO 14 is expected to be available in Q2 2025 and will require a software update for GTN Xi to v21.01 or higher.
1 GI 275 compatibility for only GI 275 HSI and
MFD.
2 Aural CO alerts require connection
to a compatible audio panel.
