Garmin Unveils New Features and Equipment Compatibility for G600, G500 with the GAD 43e
and adds aircraft to AML STC
October 29, 2012 - Garmin is pleased to announce AML STC approval for new G600 software and the new GAD 43e, and approval for the G500 to follow later this year. With the latest display software and the new GAD 43e adapter the G600 and G500 can display and control altitude preselect and vertical speed, display DME distance, analog radar altitude, analog nav data and more. These new interface capabilities reduce pilot workload and enhance safety by putting more valuable information right in the pilot’s primary field of view by integrating this data into the G600 and G500 digital displays. Aircraft owners not only realize enhanced reliability of the instruments, but also have an opportunity to clean up their panel by removing older equipment. |
The GAD 43e is an enhanced version of the GAD 43 adapter. Just like the GAD 43, the GAD 43e allows Garmin’s digital Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) to provide analog attitude information for use with select third-party autopilot systems in place of a costly-to-maintain attitude direction indicator (ADI) or remote vertical gyro (VG). The GAD 43e interfaces with the Garmin G500 and G600 for configuration and display, and it also interfaces with Garmin’s remote AHRS unit for attitude, heading, and yaw input information. For attitude-based autopilots, the GAD 43e can emulate the system’s gyro interfaces with far more accurate and reliable AHRS data. This typically lets aircraft owners remove the existing ADI or attitude gyro, such as the familiar KI-256, and replace it on the panel with a more affordable attitude indicator as the backup instrumentation. Enhanced functionality of the GAD 43e allows aircraft owners to interface their compatible existing analog NAV radios and display VOR/LOC/GS with the G600/G500 flight display system. When interfaced to compatible autopilots, the GAD 43e also functions as an altitude preselector and vertical speed controller. The GAD 43e is TSO approved and available for shipment today.
New G600/G500 Software Available
New G600 software (v6.11) is now available, and G500 software is expected to be approved later this year. When the G600/G500 is paired with a GAD 43e, the PFD can display marker beacon lamps, DME indications, synchro ADF bearing pointers and analog radar altimeter read-out, allowing the pilot to remove older equipment and clean up the panel. Additionally, the GDU Software 6.11 can also cross fill sensor data in dual G600 installations, such as NAV, Traffic, Radar Altimeter, and ADF Bearing. GDU 6.11 software will also enable primary flight information cross-side monitoring for dual G600/G500 installations, and display autopilot modes from compatible autopilots. Also, the new software allows the G600/G500 display to provide the function of a GPSS/heading switch, so no physical switch is required for the installation!Price, Availability and GAD 43e Upgrade Path
The GAD 43e is available in a new “G600 kit with GAD 43e” at a system list price starting at $31,995. The GAD 43e can be purchased a la carte for G500 (click here for pricing). The new kits and GAD 43e are available to order today with shipments beginning this week. Please note: GAD 43e and software approval for G500 is expected by the end of 2012. For a limited time, customers with an existing GAD 43 that are able to take advantage of the additional benefits that the GAD43e can receive a credit when the GAD43 is returned towards the purchase of a new GAD 43e. Please call our sales department for details about how to upgrade a current GAD 43 to a GAD 43e. Any return request for the GAD 43 should be placed at time of ordering the GAD 43e. Upgrade orders will be accepted until December 31, 2013.Autopilot Compatibility | GAD 43e | GAD 43 |
