Garmin inReach® Satellite Communicators Now Available

Garmin is pleased to announce that the new inReach SE®+ and inReach Explorer®+ satellite communicators are now available. inReach communicators use global Iridium satellite coverage for two-way messaging anywhere in the world. In case of emergency, the interactive SOS allows for communication back and forth and confirmation that help is on the way. Both models include aviation-specific features such as the capability to send and receive messages via the Garmin Pilot™ app. inReach SE+ includes built-in GPS that enables location tracking and basic ground navigation. inReach Explorer+ adds additional navigation options such as preloaded DeLorme® topographic maps, a built-in digital compass, barometric altimeter and accelerometer.

SOS and Communication Functions

inReach devices provide communication, location sharing, basic navigation and critical SOS functions for anyone who loves getting away from it all — no matter if it’s on land, water or in the sky — all while providing peace of mind for friends and family back home.

Using the worldwide coverage of the Iridium satellite network, inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ can send and receive text messages with any cell phone number, email address or another inReach device, so a user can be outside of cellular range without compromising a loved one’s peace of mind. Both devices have an interactive SOS, which triggers an emergency response from GEOS®, the 24/7 search and rescue monitoring center. After the SOS is received, inReach users are then able to communicate back and forth with GEOS about the nature of the emergency and receive confirmation when help is on the way. Users can also set up emergency contacts on their devices, so they can be notified in the event of an SOS.

Take Flight with Unique Aviation Capabilities

Garmin Pilot™ version 8.6 integrates with inReach devices to send and receive text messages over a Bluetooth® connection with the latest version of Garmin Pilot. You can also sync Garmin Pilot with your phone’s contact list to reach family and friends without cellular reception. Additionally, inReach satellite communicators are a supported device for the Lockheed Martin Flight Services (LMFS) Adverse Condition Alerting Service (ACAS), Surveillance-Enhanced Search and Rescue and Enhanced Special Reporting Services (eSRS).

New, Low-cost Service Options

To access the Iridium network and communicate with inReach SE®+ or Explorer®+, an active satellite subscription is required. Depending on usage level, users can opt for an annual contract package or a flexible month-to-month airtime plan, which allows them to pay for service only when they need it. Annual plans range from $11.95 to $79.95 per month (plus activation fee), and month-to-month plans range from $14.95 to $99.95 per month.
